San Francisco 49er Ricky Pearsall, 23, was shot and injured during an attempted robbery in Union Square on Saturday afternoon, a source confirmed to KTVU.

Initially reported as a traumatic injury by the San Francisco Fire Department, the shooting occurred near Geary and Grant streets, prompting fire crews to assist.
A source has confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and that Pearsall was shot in the chest.
Pearsall, a first-round draft pick for the 49ers, had been unable to participate in preseason games due to a shoulder injury. The shooting took place just as he had resumed practicing with the team following his recovery.
