Defending champion Coco Gauff’s run at the U.S. Open ended in the fourth round with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 loss to Emma Navarro on Sunday. Gauff struggled with her serve, recording 19 double-faults compared to 14 winners.
This defeat follows a series of early exits for Gauff, including a third-round loss at the Paris Olympics and a 1-2 record at hard-court tuneup events leading up to the U.S. Open.
Reflecting on her performance, the No. 3 seed said, “There are 70 other players who would love to have the summer I had, even though it’s probably the least successful I’ve been at this time of year. So many people want to be in the fourth round, make the Olympics, or be a flag bearer. It’s all about perspective.”
