Dallas Wings Avoid Awkward Situation with Sheryl Swoopes Missing Caitlin Clark Visit

Sheryl Swoopes was absent from the Dallas Wings broadcast when Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visited, sparking questions.

The dynamic between Swoopes and Clark has been one of the more unusual stories in sports this season. It seems that the WNBA legend isn't the biggest fan of the new women's basketball sensation. When Clark and the Indiana Fever visited the Dallas Wings on Sunday, many were curious about what Swoopes might say, given her role as an analyst in Dallas. However, WNBA fans didn't get the chance to hear her commentary because Swoopes wasn't in the broadcast booth. Instead, fellow women's basketball legend Nancy Lieberman called the game alongside Ron Thulin.

This led to speculation online that Swoopes was "replaced" or "pulled" in a "broadcast shakeup." However, the reality is less dramatic. Swoopes, Lieberman, and former WNBA champion Fran Harris were announced as analysts for the Wings in April and have rotated throughout the season. In fact, Harris called the Wings-Lynx game just two days earlier without any commotion.

Additionally, Swoopes had already called one of Clark’s games earlier this season, a preseason contest in May, where she even interviewed her after the game. This followed controversy in February when Swoopes criticized Clark’s scoring records at Iowa, emerging as one of her most vocal critics.
