The Blythewood High School community is mourning the loss of junior football player Troy Moore, who passed away recently.
“Troy Moore had a great heart and always had a smile on his face,” said Head Football Coach James Martin. “He never got upset or unsettled. He was always constant, and that’s what I loved about him.”
Coach Martin described Moore’s energy as unforgettable, noting that anyone who met him would remember his gentle-giant spirit and positivity in the school halls.
“Just remembering his smile and seeing him walk down the hall at 6′6 and 300 pounds, you couldn’t miss him,” Coach Martin said. “He was a gentle giant.”
Martin highlighted Moore’s unmatched work ethic, saying he set an example for other players in the football program.
“He did it the right way. You can’t say anything else,” Coach Martin said. “He’s the type of young man you want in your program because you don’t have to worry about what he does or how he does it; it’s just going to be the right way.”
The school has made counseling services available for students and staff who need support. They can contact the school at 803-691-4090 and dial “0” to connect with a counselor.
Assistant Football Coach Jarius Byrd shared that the entire staff broke down and cried upon hearing the news on Saturday. The team plans to dedicate the rest of the 2024-25 season to Moore.
