During his Friday news conference, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel chose not to discuss Tua Tagovailoa’s future in football following the quarterback’s latest concussion on Thursday night.
In contrast, Raiders head coach and former player Antonio Pierce shared a more candid opinion when asked about Tagovailoa.
“To be honest, I’d advise him to retire,” Pierce stated during his Friday news conference. “It’s just not worth it. Having played the game, I’ve never seen anything like what’s happened to him three times. It’s frightening. You can see the urgency on the players’ faces to get Tua help.
“At some point, he’s going to live longer than he’ll play football. He needs to take care of his family.”
Tagovailoa, 26, left Thursday’s game in the third quarter after a collision with safety Damar Hamlin during a fourth-down scramble.
Although Pierce isn’t Tagovailoa’s coach, his comments are significant, especially given his background as a former player.
