NYC Holds Annual 911 Remembrance Ceremony, Honoring Victims 23 Years Later

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum hosted its annual ceremony to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, honoring the 2,983 individuals who lost their lives. The victims included those killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, aboard Flight 93, and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Wednesday's ceremony was dedicated to the families of the victims, who once again took part in the moving tradition of reading aloud the names of their loved ones. Family members carried photos, placed flowers at the memorial, and made rubbings of the names engraved on the parapets surrounding the reflecting pools.

Many of the names were recited by a new generation—children who never met the victims, yet keep their memories alive through stories passed down by their families.
